Demographics and Automation

We argue theoretically and document empirically that aging leads to greater (industrial) automation, and in particular, to more intensive use and development of robots. Using US data, we document that robots substitute for middle-aged workers (those between the ages of 36 and 55). We then show that demographic change—corresponding to an increasing ratio of older to middle-aged workers—is associ...

Fixture Design Automation and Optimization Techniques: Review and Future Trends

Fixture design is crucial part of manufacturing process. Fixture design is a critical design activity process, in which automation plays an integral role in linking computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD). This paper presents a literature review in computer aided fixture design (CAFD) in terms of automation and optimization techniques over the past decades. First, the...

In fact, real house prices grew by an average of 31/2% per year from 1987 to 2004. Of course, the MankiwWeil prediction may yet come to pass; or it may have already occurred and simply been masked by the surge in d...

Magill, and Martine Quinzii 2004; Andrew Ang and Angela Maddaloni 2005), there is little evidence on the effe...
